Welcome to the Namibian Scholars’ Investment Challenge (NSIC)!

The aim of the Namibian Scholars’ Investment Challenge (NSIC) is to introduce university and secondary school students to share investments and to provide them with knowledge on broader aspects of capital market operations, to give them an understanding of commercial dynamics and the macroeconomic environment through a fun and far-reaching educational programme.

Each participating team will be credited with a fictitious sum of N$ 500,000.00, which they can use to buy and trade shares in the simulated market.

Dates for registration will be 17 March closing 11 April 2025.

Trading to start 11 April 2025 and last date to trade or closing to be 24 October 2025

  • Progress Evaluations: Regular evaluations will track the performance of teams over the course of the competition.
  • Winning Teams: The teams that achieve the highest returns or incur the least losses in their portfolios during the competition period will be declared the winners.

Registration information:

  • Team Registration: Registration must be done online for each team, with a team leader selected.
  • Team Composition: Each team must consist of 3-4 members.
  • Fictitious Capital: Each team will be credited with a fictitious sum of N$ 500,000 for trading.
  • Eligibility: Any number of teams can participate from each school or university, provided the team members are currently enrolled/registered for the academic year.

Trading information:

  • Trading Period: After registration is completed, trading will begin once the trading period opens, lasting for a total of 6 months.
  • Active Participation: Teams must engage in active trading for the entire 6-month period.
  • Team Size Requirement: Teams must always consist of 3-4 members. If a team falls below 3 members, it will be disqualified.
  • Share Transactions: Only shares listed on the NSX can be bought or sold.
  • Order Changes: Once a trade instruction is submitted through the trading app, no changes can be made.
  • Trade Queries: Teams may query any transaction within 30 calendar days of the trade. Queries will not be accepted after this period.
  • Brokerage Fees: Transactions will incur a virtual brokerage fee of 0.5%.
  • Investment Limit: Teams may not invest more than 20% (N$ 100,000) of their total portfolio in any one share at any given time, inclusive of the 0.5% brokerage fee.
  • Rules: Make sure to familiarise yourself with all the rules and apply them throughout the competition to avoid disqualification.
  • Eligibility Restrictions: Organisers, sponsors, and their immediate families are not eligible to participate in the competition.
  • Judges’ Decision: The decision of the judges is final, and no further correspondence will be entered into.
